Looking closely at a few unfamiliar objects can be more rewarding than rushing through every display before photographing the exterior.

General admission and the Scottish Design Galleries are free. Some exhibitions are ticketed separately, so distinguish the free museum visit from a particular advertised show.

Tickets and booking: Normally open daily 10:00–17:00, with specified festive closures. Free museum entry does not need booking; paid exhibitions and special events may require tickets.
Access and getting around: The main entrance and building are step-free. Wheelchairs can be reserved, seating is provided and there are accessible toilets, a Changing Places toilet and a quiet room. Check individual exhibition information for sensory details.
