The Falkirk Wheel

Watch a remarkable piece of canal engineering, or book a passenger trip to experience the lift from the water. The Wheel connects two canals at different levels, so the pleasure is in seeing an everyday transport problem solved on a dramatic scale. Give yourself time around the basin as well as the trip, rather than arriving just before departure and leaving immediately.

Tickets and booking: Reserve the trip in advance. The operator estimates about an hour on the water, subject to canal traffic; seasonal departure patterns can change.
Access and getting around: The operator accepts wheelchairs and mobility scooters on the boat when advised at booking so capacity can be adjusted. Limited Blue Badge parking is near the visitor centre; confirm individual needs before travelling.

Visiting with children: Book a ticket for every passenger, including children who qualify for free travel. Supervise children closely beside the canal and during boarding.
