Guildford Castle Grounds

Explore the garden paths and look up at the castle keep before deciding whether to add the seasonal paid tower visit. The grounds offer a worthwhile outdoor pause in the town without climbing the keep. Choose a comfortable route rather than assuming every part of the sloping site is equally easy to reach.

Before you go

Grounds are free; the keep is a separate paid visit. Current keep opening is Wednesday–Saturday, noon–4.30pm, from 4 April to 3 October, with last entry at 4pm.

Tickets and booking: Free grounds; optional keep admission is paid except applicable concessions. Check the council’s current grounds closing time and seasonal keep calendar; ordinary keep entry is not available every day.
Access and getting around: Most grounds are wheelchair accessible, but steep slopes and steps occur around the keep. The tower viewpoint requires a climb; choose garden routes separately from the paid interior.

Visiting with children: Use the gardens as a short outdoor pause. Only add the keep if children are comfortable on historic stairs and its seasonal opening fits your day.
