HAWORTH GUIDE Independent ideas for your day out

Brontë memorials and a working church / HAWORTH

Haworth Parish Church

Visit St Michael and All Angels for the parish setting of the Brontë story and a quiet look at the memorials. Most of the family are buried beneath the church; Anne is buried in Scarborough. The present church was largely rebuilt after Patrick Brontë’s death, so distinguish the family’s connections from the age of the building you see.

Before you go

Pair a short visit with the neighbouring Parsonage, but check that sightseeing fits around worship and other services. The church can be a place to pause rather than another hour-long attraction.

The practical details

Where to find it
Church Street, Haworth BD22 8EF
Directions and arrival information ↗
Tickets and booking
Ordinary visiting is free, with donations welcome. Check the parish’s current visiting arrangements; services, funerals and concerts can change access. Special events may have their own booking or charges. A visit to the church does not include admission to the Parsonage.
Access and getting around
The approach is through the steep historic village and churchyard paving can be uneven. Contact the parish about the entrance, internal route and toilet provision you need before making a special journey. Keep to formal paths and allow extra time after rain or in icy conditions.
Official access information ↗
Visiting with children
Choose a memorial or architectural feature to look at quietly. Supervise children in the churchyard, respecting graves and anyone visiting them. A short stop before lunch or park time is usually easier to pace than consecutive long indoor visits.

Practical information checked 15 September 2026. Confirm anything essential to your visit with the venue.

Make it part of your day

Allow 20–40 minutes for the visit, plus travel and breaks. This is a suggested planning allowance; opening times, access and availability may affect your plans.
