Richard Booth’s on Lion Street offers a useful starting point, with new and secondhand books across several floors, while other independent shops specialise in different subjects. Following your own interests makes the visit more rewarding than treating bookshop numbers as a sightseeing target.

- Access varies between shops and older buildings. Richard Booth’s states that all its bookshop floors are wheelchair-accessible; ask other shops individually and allow for outdoor streets between them.
