Thursday market and river pause →
Visit the main market before it finishes, then choose an outdoor extension only if the river paths are suitable.

Time a visit for Thursday if you enjoy browsing produce, food, crafts and changing stalls. The market spreads through several central spaces, including the market halls and around the clock tower, making it a different experience from a normal bookshop day. Take a reusable bag and leave time for a food break without assuming a particular stall will always be present.

The main weekly market is Thursday, currently 9am–2.30pm. Saturday markets have different schedules and scale; they are not interchangeable with the full Thursday event.
Practical information checked 15 September 2026. Confirm anything essential to your visit with the venue.
Allow 1–2 hours for the visit, plus travel and breaks. This is a suggested planning allowance; opening times, access and availability may affect your plans.
