Bancroft Recreation Ground
Use Bancroft as a straightforward outdoor pause close to Hitchin’s centre. Trees, planted areas and play space give a museum day a different pace without requiring a countryside excursion. It can also be a short outing in its own right when the children mainly need room to play.

The splash pad is seasonal and its 2026 season has finished. Plan around the park and play area, checking next season’s dates before promising water play.

- Park entry is free. Tennis, the games area, kiosk purchases and some activities are separate; check current booking rules and parking charges.

- The council lists disabled access and nearby bus stops. Use the main paths and check any closures or equipment access; individual sporting and play facilities have their own requirements.
