North Hertfordshire Museum

Start with the district’s stories at North Hertfordshire Museum, next to Hitchin Town Hall. Its collections help put the surrounding town and countryside into context, while changing exhibitions offer another reason to look closely. General admission is free, so a focused hour can work as well as a longer visit.

Check the current exhibition programme if a particular display is your reason for travelling. The museum closes on Mondays and bank holidays; older reopening notices are not its current ticketing policy.

Tickets and booking: Ordinary entry is free. Check Tuesday–Sunday opening, the shorter Sunday day and any separately booked activity before travelling.
Access and getting around: A platform lift at the entrance accommodates standard wheelchairs and buggies but not mobility scooters. A passenger lift serves the floors; accessible toilets, loan wheelchairs and a visual guide are available.

Visiting with children: Choose a few objects to discover together and check current family activities. A free museum visit does not mean every workshop or ticketed event is included.
