Culloden Battlefield and Visitor Centre
Culloden is best approached as a place to understand and reflect on the 1746 battle. Start with the visitor centre’s account of both sides, then use the outdoor landscape to put the story in place. The exposed moor and memorials deserve time and attention rather than a hurried photograph on the way elsewhere.
The immersion presentation includes battle material. Ask about its sound and imagery if anyone is sensitive, and let the outdoor portion depend on conditions rather than committing to every path.

- Visitor-centre admission and guided tours have separate ticket choices. Budget for parking unless your entitlement covers it. This is outside the city: arrange outward and return transport rather than planning a town-centre walk.
- Access and getting around
- The visitor centre and principal facilities have level access. Battlefield paths and the ramped roof walkway accommodate wheelchairs and buggies, but mud and exposed weather can make them harder. Leanach Cottage has a narrow low doorway and uneven stones.

- Best when children have an interest in the story and can handle discussion of conflict and death. Use a shorter outdoor route and a food break; do not frame the battlefield as a play area.
