Benthall Hall and garden

Benthall Hall offers a change from industrial collections: a stone family house with carved oak details, decorated ceilings and a garden shaped by generations of residents. Its setting above the gorge lends itself to a measured house-and-garden afternoon. Woodland walking is an optional extension, with much more demanding terrain than the main garden routes.

Before you go

Opening is limited: normally Saturday–Monday in term time and Saturday–Wednesday during local school holidays. Check house and garden hours separately before setting out.

Where to find it: Benthall, near Broseley, Shropshire TF12 5RX; above and outside Ironbridge centre.

Tickets and booking: Paid house-and-garden admission for non-members; use the date-specific calendar, including last entry. Parking is separate for non-members and members must register their visit. The independent refreshment kiosk has its own operation; do not depend on a full lunch menu.
Access and getting around: A ramp reaches the main hall, but other ground-floor rooms have steps and upper rooms require stairs. Main garden routes are step-free with slopes, compact earth, gravel and cobbles. Adapted toilet and designated parking are available; woodland paths include steep and uneven ground.

Visiting with children: A compact house and garden visit can work better than a long museum circuit. Check for any current family trail rather than assuming a holiday activity runs every day. Keep woodland walking short if slopes or muddy ground would be difficult.
