Coalbrookdale Museum of Iron

The Museum of Iron at Coalbrookdale connects local geology and the Darby family with objects that changed ordinary working lives. Decorative castings show that iron was used for much more than heavy machinery. Its galleries make a focused alternative to spending the day at Blists Hill, with the Furnace Kitchen nearby for a break.

Before you go

The Old Furnace is currently closed for conservation repairs. Plan around the open museum rather than assuming the whole Coalbrookdale cluster is available.

Tickets and booking: General admission is paid for non-members; check the current National Trust opening calendar and ticket terms. Valid older IGMT passes are honoured until expiry, but their former retail and café discounts do not all continue. The nearby café has separate hours.
Access and getting around: Step-free entrance and a lift connect the museum’s three floors. Accessible toilets, baby changing, seating and loan wheelchairs are available. Some surrounding routes become steep or uneven; the top-floor clock can be loud, and sensory items are available at reception.

Visiting with children: Hands-on objects and interactive interpretation offer ways into the story for children. This is a museum of iron and its history, not a replacement for the closed Enginuity science centre. Take a break before attention runs out.
