IRONBRIDGE GUIDE Independent ideas for your day out

Colour and craftsmanship in a former factory / NEAR IRONBRIDGE

Jackfield Tile Museum

Follow the journey from clay to decorated interiors in the former tile factory at Jackfield, downstream from Ironbridge. Historic tiles and recreated settings show how this small gorge settlement supplied buildings far beyond Shropshire. It is a particularly useful choice for an interest in design, pattern or industrial craft.

Before you go

Current visits are weekends only and must be booked. The lifts are out of service, so contact the museum before booking if stairs would restrict your visit.

The practical details

Where to find it
Jackfield, in the Ironbridge Gorge; use the museum’s own arrival details rather than the Blists Hill postcode.
Directions and arrival information ↗
Tickets and booking
All visitors, including National Trust members, currently need a booked weekend slot. The visit starts with an introduction, followed by self-paced viewing. Check the calendar, lift notice and any separate workshop booking before travelling.
Access and getting around
The entrance route is step-free, but several lifts are currently unavailable. Upper areas and the exit route involve stairs; some historic corridors are narrow and tile floors uneven. An accessible toilet is across the courtyard. Ask about the digital interpretation alternative and which rooms you can reach.
Official access information ↗
Visiting with children
Patterns and room settings can engage children who enjoy looking closely. Book any tile-making workshop separately and check age suitability with its provider; museum entry does not promise a workshop place.

Practical information checked 15 September 2026. Confirm anything essential to your visit with the venue.

Make it part of your day

Allow 1½–2 hours for the visit, plus travel and breaks. This is a suggested planning allowance; opening times, access and availability may affect your plans.
