Kirkcudbright Galleries

Start with the artists’ collection to understand why Kirkcudbright became associated with painting and creative life. Changing exhibitions add another reason to return, but you can choose a few works and enjoy a shorter visit without trying to cover every floor. The converted town hall offers a practical indoor anchor close to the rest of the town.

Tickets and booking: General admission is free. Current gallery hours are Tuesday–Saturday 10am–4pm and Sunday 11.30am–4pm, closed Monday; the Mitchell Gallery closes earlier. Special events and café hours may differ.
Access and getting around: The main display is at ground level, with a lift to other gallery floors and an accessible toilet upstairs. Entrance and internal glass doors are heavy and manually operated; staff can help.

Visiting with children: Choose a few paintings to talk about rather than turning the visit into a test of reading every label. Check dated family activities separately and leave room for a break.
