KNARESBOROUGH GUIDE Independent ideas for your day out

Small gardens & picnic stops / KNARESBOROUGH

Bebra Gardens

Explore a compact hillside garden beside the castle, with winding paths, rockery planting and benches for a pause. It is a useful way to add greenery to a hilltop visit, but the descending paths also lead towards the riverside and can make a short wander longer than expected.

Before you go

For a brief stop, enter from the castle side and turn back before committing to the descent. The paddling pool is a summer facility and should not be the reason for a September or winter visit.

The practical details

Where to find it
Brewerton Street and castle-side entrance, Knaresborough, North Yorkshire
Directions and arrival information ↗
Tickets and booking
General garden entry is free. Check local notices for seasonal facilities and maintenance; no ticket to the museum is required for the public garden. Wet leaves and weather can make steep routes less comfortable.
Access and getting around
Steep slopes and winding paths are central to the layout, with steps linking to Waterside. This is not a level alternative to the town’s other hills. Choose the entrance and distance to suit your party; seating does not remove the climb.
Official access information ↗
Visiting with children
A small picnic or a look at the planting can complement the castle. The published paddling-pool season runs from the late-May bank holiday to the first week of September; check actual operation before bringing swimming things.

Practical information checked 14 September 2026. Confirm anything essential to your visit with the venue.

Make it part of your day

Allow 30–60 minutes for the visit, plus travel and breaks. This is a suggested planning allowance; opening times, access and availability may affect your plans.
