Leeds Art Gallery

British painting and sculpture make the gallery a rewarding place to slow down on The Headrow. Look closely at a few works that interest you both, then leave time for the decorative Tiled Hall Café if it is serving. This is a useful standalone art visit as well as a compact companion to Leeds City Museum.

Before you go

Upper galleries close earlier on Saturdays, and Sunday hours are shorter. Check the exhibition programme before travelling for one artist; a work in the collection is not necessarily on display.

Tickets and booking: General entry is Give What You Can, with optional donations. The gallery closes Mondays even when the café opens. Temporary displays, event bookings and café service have their own arrangements. The nearby City Museum Changing Places hoist is currently unavailable, despite the gallery referring visitors there.
Access and getting around: A gradual ramp reaches the main entrance; the library lift serves upper displays. The mezzanine link to the Henry Moore Institute is stairs-only. The access page warns seating has temporarily been removed, with limited seats on request. Confirm arrangements if standing is difficult.

Visiting with children: Choose a small number of pictures and let children describe what they notice. Ask about current Artspace activities rather than expecting a daily workshop. Accessible toilets and baby changing are available; RADAR keys are used.
