Lichfield Cathedral

Look up at the three spires, then explore the cathedral’s stonework, stained glass and historic chapels during visitor hours. The building is a living place of worship, so the experience changes with services, music and the areas open on the day. Allow time in the Close as well as inside.

Tickets and booking: Ordinary sightseeing is unticketed and by voluntary donation, not a compulsory fee. Normal hours are Monday–Saturday 10am–5pm, Sunday noon–5pm, last entry 4.30pm. Services and events can change access; Sunday east-end gates normally close 2.30–about 4.30pm. Tours and special events may need separate tickets.
Access and getting around: There is a ramped main entrance, with a ramp to the Quire; St Chad’s Head Chapel requires stairs. Close surfaces can be uneven, with gradients around its eastern end. Accessible toilets are outside the cathedral; ask a welcomer for the suitable route. Limited Blue Badge spaces may be unavailable.

Visiting with children: Choose a few details to find rather than expecting children to follow a full architectural history. Rehearsals may be loud, so contact the cathedral about sensory needs. Leave space for people praying and check whether family events need booking.
