Formal gardens, woodland & play / LICHFIELD
Beacon Park
Start in Museum Gardens near Bird Street, then continue into the wider recreation grounds for play, planting and a longer outdoor break. Beacon Park offers more room to move than the small poolside walk near the cathedral. Choose the part that suits your time rather than treating the entire park as one short stop.

A walk and play session need no activity booking. Decide separately whether to add adventure golf or another paid sport, and check the current operator’s availability before promising it to children.
The practical details
- Where to find it
- Bird Street, Swan Road and Beacon Park, Lichfield WS13 6QZ
Directions and arrival information ↗ - Tickets and booking
- The public park is open all year with free ordinary access. Parking, adventure golf, padel and other bookable activities cost separately and have their own operating times. Follow signs during events or maintenance; do not assume every listed sport is available without booking. Dogs must stay out of the enclosed play area and golf course.
- Access and getting around
- Swan Road has a level entrance; Bird Street entrances have slight slopes. Main paths connect areas without steps, but woodland paths are narrower, compacted stone and gently graded. The play areas mix hard surfacing, grass, sand and woodchip. Check toilet availability and the RADAR-key Changing Places facility before relying on it.
Official access information ↗ - Visiting with children
- The enclosed junior play area includes an accessible roundabout and a swing for wheelchair users. Keep children close beside the boating pool and agree a manageable route to the playground. Bring a picnic or check café hours rather than making optional sports the whole day.
Practical information checked 15 September 2026. Confirm anything essential to your visit with the venue.
Make it part of your day
Allow 1–2 hours for the visit, plus travel and breaks. This is a suggested planning allowance; opening times, access and availability may affect your plans.
