Architecture / LINCOLN
Lincoln Cathedral
Look up through the great interior, then slow down for the carving, glass and changing spaces around the cathedral floor. A visit can be about architecture, the story of worship here or simply understanding the building that dominates Lincoln’s skyline. Choose a floor visit first; a specialist roof or tower tour is a different commitment.

The Wren Library is closed until further notice. Graduation ceremonies restrict some cathedral access through 14 September 2026; confirm the current visitor route before travelling rather than assuming an announced return to normal has happened.
The practical details
- Where to find it
- Minster Yard, Lincoln LN2 1PX, in the uphill Cathedral Quarter.
Directions and arrival information ↗ - Tickets and booking
- General sightseeing does not require advance booking, but check current access and admission terms. Monday–Saturday admission includes a floor tour when available and the Exhibition Gallery and Discovery Centre; no tours on Sunday. Prayer/services are free. Specialist tours have separate tickets and suitability checks.
- Access and getting around
- The main cathedral floor is step-free apart from some small chapels; medieval stone surfaces are uneven. Ramps and lifts connect the visitor spaces. Upper tours involve substantial stairs and separate suitability rules. Confirm the arrival entrance during any restrictions.
Official access information ↗ - Visiting with children
- Children aged 0–16 have free family admission, up to four per paying adult under the published terms. Keep the floor visit manageable. The access guide excludes under-14s from upper-floor tours; check current tour rules before promising a climb.
Practical information checked 14 September 2026. Confirm anything essential to your visit with the venue.
Make it part of your day
Allow 1½–2 hours for the visit, plus travel and breaks. This is a suggested planning allowance; opening times, access and availability may affect your plans.
