This is a substantial free-entry alternative to the castle and cathedral, rather than an extra to rush before closing.

Check opening days: the museum currently opens Friday–Tuesday. The regimental trench display includes flashing lights and explosion sounds; ask how to avoid it if that would spoil the visit.

Tickets and booking: Ordinary admission is free except on event days. Check the calendar before travel and treat special activities as separate availability or costs. The site has a small car park and a tearoom; confirm refreshments if essential.
Access and getting around: The museum describes level access to galleries, toilets and courtyard, automatic doors and a lift. Some regimental areas have low light and uneven ground. Ask staff about a route avoiding flashing lights and loud effects.

Visiting with children: A children’s trail and Historic Hunters playground provide a focus. The playground is outdoors; plan around weather and do not assume all exhibits are hands-on. Ask staff about the military display before taking sound-sensitive children through it.
