LIVINGSTON GUIDE Independent ideas for your day out

Local industry, animals and family play / LIVINGSTON

Almond Valley Heritage Centre

Explore a combined museum, historic mill, farm and play attraction beside Livingston’s older village. The industrial displays explain the area’s shale-oil story, while animal areas and indoor and outdoor play make this a substantial family visit rather than a brief museum stop.

The practical details

Where to find it
Millfield, Livingston Village EH54 7AR
Directions and arrival information ↗
Tickets and booking
Paid admission should be booked online, particularly at busy weekends and holidays. Check the current ticket inclusions and programme; members may also need reservations on busy dates. Seasonal holiday closures apply.
Access and getting around
Most visitor routes avoid steps, with mixed hard and rolled-stone surfaces and modest slopes. The small mill cellar is an exception, viewable from outside. Accessible toilets are available; ask about a route that fits your mobility and sensory needs.
Official access information ↗
Visiting with children
Much of the play is aimed at toddlers through primary-school age. Leave time for handwashing after animal areas and check any activity restrictions. Indoor play does not make every part of the site weatherproof.

Practical information checked 16 September 2026. Confirm anything essential to your visit with the venue.

Make it part of your day

Allow 3–5 hours for the visit, plus travel and breaks. This is a suggested planning allowance; opening times, access and availability may affect your plans.
