A short canal journey with a clear return / LLANGOLLEN
Horse-drawn boat trips from Llangollen Wharf
Take the short horse-drawn trip from Llangollen Wharf for a different view of the canal and its working heritage. The usual short outing lasts about 45 minutes and returns to the wharf, making it easier to fit around lunch than a full railway or aqueduct excursion. There are covered and open areas, but boarding and the walk to the wharf remain outside.

The short horse-drawn trip does not cross Pontcysyllte Aqueduct. Choose that separately if it is your aim: the motor-boat excursion uses a different route and includes a coach connection under the published public-trip arrangements.
The practical details
- Where to find it
- Llangollen Wharf, Wharf Hill LL20 8TA
Directions and arrival information ↗ - Tickets and booking
- Check the booking calendar for your date and the trip length. Longer horse-drawn outings towards Horseshoe Falls operate on selected dates. Aqueduct motor trips are separate two-hour sailings with direction and coach arrangements to check; arrive at the stated check-in time.
- Access and getting around
- Ask the operator about the exact boat’s entrance, wheelchair dimensions, transfer needs, buggy storage and toilets before booking. The approach is up Wharf Hill and a canal-side route is not automatically a level street approach. For an aqueduct trip, check the coach as well as the boat.
Official access information ↗ - Visiting with children
- Choose the short return if children are new to boat travel. Supervise beside the canal and follow crew instructions around the horse and boarding point. Confirm infant and child ticket rules, rather than assuming that every child travels free.

Make it part of your day
Allow about 45 minutes aboard; allow 1–1½ hours overall for the visit, plus travel and breaks. This is a suggested planning allowance; opening times, access and availability may affect your plans.
