Science and Industry Museum

Explore the engines, experiments and textile stories behind Manchester’s industrial identity. Choose a few galleries and leave time to understand the human consequences of manufacturing, as well as the machines themselves. This is a substantial museum visit on an industrial site still being restored.

Before you go

Power Hall is among the current highlights, but parts of the 1830 railway site and yards remain affected by restoration. The Air and Space Hall is permanently closed. Tickets and booking: Advance free admission booking is recommended. Some exhibitions and activities cost extra; choose those separately from general entry.
Access and getting around: The museum describes step-free access to all floors in its multi-level buildings. Its visual story, quiet room, ear defenders and sensory packs can help with planning; construction can bring unexpected noise and route changes.

Visiting with children: Hands-on science makes this a strong choice for curious children. A buggy park is provided near the entrance, but it is not secured. Select one theme and use a break if machinery or busy interactive spaces become overwhelming.
