An Eildon walking day →
Treat the hill circuit as the main activity, with town time afterwards only if conditions and energy allow.
A steep hill outing above Melrose / MELROSE
Make the Eildons the main outdoor activity if you want a proper climb and broad Borders views. The local North Hill circuit links town paths, the Newstead side and a steep ascent before returning towards Melrose. Extra summits can extend the day, but they are optional additions rather than a requirement.

Check wind, visibility and daylight as well as rain. A hill that looks close from the town can still need sturdy footwear, navigation and enough time for a careful descent.
Practical information checked 16 September 2026. Confirm anything essential to your visit with the venue.
Allow around 3 hours for the north hill circuit with breaks for the visit, plus travel and breaks. This is a suggested planning allowance; opening times, access and availability may affect your plans.
