Woodland, a loch and castle scenery / NEAR MILNGAVIE

Mugdock Country Park

Choose Mugdock for a longer outdoor visit through woodland and historic parkland, with the castle and loch giving a clear focus to a route. The visitor-centre courtyard makes a useful starting point for a map, food and facilities. The park is near Milngavie, but the castle area lies across the council boundary in Stirling.

Before you go

Pick a route from the visitor-centre map instead of trying to cover the whole park. Castle buildings and paid events are not automatically included in free grounds access.

Tickets and booking
Grounds entry is free. The main car park currently opens 9am–6pm; smaller parking areas have different arrangements. Cafés, special activities and events may cost extra. Check closing times before leaving a car.
Access and getting around
Paths vary between surfaced approaches and rougher, sloping woodland sections. Start at the visitor centre to choose a suitable route and check current access. Main parking is beside toilets, cafés and the play area; facility hours are separate from grounds access.

Visiting with children
A short castle-and-loch route or play-and-woodland visit can be enough. Supervise by water and ruins, and keep more demanding paths optional. Ranger events require their own date and booking checks.
