MONMOUTH GUIDE Independent ideas for your day out

Town-green space for play and a picnic / MONMOUTH

Chippenham Fields and Play Area

Use Chippenham Fields as a breathing space between Monmouth’s historic streets and a meal. The town green and play area make it especially useful for children who have spent time looking at buildings or museum displays. Choose a patch of open space and a comfortable play session rather than treating the wider riverside and sports areas as a compulsory walking circuit.

Before you go

Use the current play-area location near Blestium Street, opposite the rear of Waitrose. Leave pitches and organised sports areas clear when they are in use.

The practical details

Where to find it
Chippenham Fields and Blestium Street play area, Monmouth, Monmouthshire
Directions and arrival information ↗
Tickets and booking
Ordinary park and play-area access is free. Respect event notices, dog restrictions and temporary works; food, parking and organised activities are separate.
Access and getting around
The play area includes inclusive equipment, but individual items, approach paths and grass conditions vary. Check temporary works and use a suitable surfaced approach; inclusive provision does not mean every activity suits every visitor.
Official access information ↗
Visiting with children
Choose age-appropriate equipment and supervise near roads, water and sports activity. It is a good place for a planned break rather than an exhausted last stop.

Practical information checked 15 September 2026. Confirm anything essential to your visit with the venue.

Make it part of your day

Allow 45 minutes–1½ hours for the visit, plus travel and breaks. This is a suggested planning allowance; opening times, access and availability may affect your plans.
