Baron’s Haugh nature reserve
Visit the reserve’s paths and hides for a slower outing beside wetland and woodland habitats. Ducks, other waterbirds and riverside wildlife make every visit different; bring binoculars if you have them and allow time to watch rather than expecting a guaranteed sighting. The reserve adjoins Dalzell Estate, but its birdwatching focus makes it worth choosing deliberately rather than merely passing through.

- Access and getting around
- The RSPB describes many wide surfaced paths, with slopes, softer ground and gates on longer routes. The two closer hides have lowered viewing slots; more distant hides have steps. Check conditions and select your route accordingly.
