Follow the seafront for an easy introduction to Newcastle, County Down, with the mountain skyline behind the town. The promenade provides the most straightforward way to enjoy the coast without committing to sand or a mountain route. Choose the length of the outing around the weather, then return to the town for a break.

The beach is a mixture of sand, pebbles and stones. A level promenade outing and a walk down onto the shore are different access choices.

- Ordinary promenade and beach access is free. Check local parking signs and any event restrictions. Seasonal dog restrictions apply to sections of the beach, and conditions can change after storms.
- Access and getting around
- The beach is reached by steps or a slipway, with variable surfaces beyond. Council facilities include a Changing Places toilet at Downs Road; check current access arrangements. Stay on the promenade if the shore is unsuitable for wheels or mobility.

- Keep children close near the shore and promenade edges. There are no lifeguards on Newcastle Beach; follow current water-quality and safety signs rather than treating a beach walk as an invitation to swim.
