Across the river in Gateshead, the former flour mill gives changing contemporary exhibitions an unusually generous setting. The building and river outlook can be as much a reason to visit as a particular artist. Check what is on, choose the floors that interest you, and leave room to talk about the work afterwards.

Before you go

Baltic is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, including bank holiday Mondays. Exhibitions change and some floors may be between shows; Six rooftop restaurant is permanently closed.

Tickets and booking: General admission is free. Book ticketed activities separately and check which exhibitions will be open. Plan the outdoor journey over the Millennium Bridge as part of the visit.
Access and getting around: There is a level entrance on South Shore Road and lifts between floors, including a non-glass alternative. Review the exhibition-specific visual stories for light, sound or other sensory content.
