National Roman Legion Museum

Use the museum to meet the people behind the fortress: look at what soldiers wore, used and left behind, then consider how this garrison fitted into the wider settlement. A focused visit can be paired with the separate Roman Baths, but the two are different attractions with different admission arrangements.

The museum is in Caerleon, not central Newport. Book a free day ticket if possible and plan your transfer and food stop before adding other Roman sites.

Tickets and booking: General admission is free; some events or activities may charge. Free advance tickets are recommended, with walk-up entry possible. Check current hours and holiday notices; the baths require a separate ticket.
Access and getting around: A level entrance is beside the front steps. The museum is on one level with small changes in floor height and portable ramp provision; garden paths are uneven. A loan wheelchair is limited and should be reserved.

Visiting with children: Children under 16 need an accompanying adult. Choose a few objects to compare with the baths afterwards; check any special activities separately.
