NORTHAMPTON GUIDE Independent ideas for your day out

Mackintosh interiors in a Northampton townhouse / NORTHAMPTON

78 Derngate

See how Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s remodelling transformed a modest townhouse for W. J. Bassett-Lowke. The attraction is the relationship between rooms, decoration and everyday living, so allow time to look at the details. The paid house visit is separate from the free visitor-centre galleries and shop.

Before you go

A guided tour is not guaranteed on every visit. Check the available interpretation and discuss mobility needs in advance: the house has steep stairs and the lift does not serve every room.
