NORTHAMPTON GUIDE Independent ideas for your day out

A historic house and parkland south of the centre / NORTHAMPTON

Delapré Abbey

Choose Delapré for a house visit that connects different chapters of Northampton’s history, with parkland nearby for an outdoor change of pace. Its public house openings are selective, so the date matters. The walled garden is currently closed for essential work and should not be treated as an available part of the visit.

Before you go

Check the current entrance notice and house calendar before travelling. Café or park access does not mean the house is open, and the published walled-garden closure takes precedence over its usual opening hours.

The practical details

Where to find it
London Road, Northampton NN4 8AW
Directions and arrival information ↗
Tickets and booking
Check and book the advertised house opening or event. General house visiting is currently Wednesday, Thursday, Sunday and bank-holiday Monday, with other facilities on different schedules; do not infer admission from a restaurant booking.
Access and getting around
The house spans several levels with ramps and wheelchair-accessible lifts where possible. Tight spaces and uneven floors remain; manual loan chairs are available, but mobility scooters are not allowed inside. Ask staff about your intended route.
Official access information ↗
Visiting with children
The operator offers hands-on ways to explore the historic rooms. Check current activities and allow a proper break; outdoor park sections remain weather-dependent and the walled garden is closed.

Practical information checked 15 September 2026. Confirm anything essential to your visit with the venue.

Make it part of your day

Allow 2–3 hours for the visit, plus travel and breaks. This is a suggested planning allowance; opening times, access and availability may affect your plans.
