Norwich Castle Museum & Art Gallery

Norwich Castle combines a medieval palace with museum galleries, so choose your interests before beginning. The redeveloped keep presents twelfth-century life; elsewhere, art, archaeology and natural history offer a different pace. It is a substantial central visit that can occupy most of a wet afternoon without needing a second admission.

Before you go

The keep has immersive projections with flashing lights and sound. Ask staff for timings if you need to avoid them, and check lift or battlement disruptions before your visit.

Tickets and booking: Compare current advance tickets, concessions and companion eligibility. The battlements are weather-dependent; do not buy a ticket solely for a promised rooftop view.
Access and getting around: Lifts serve the keep and museum, with important evacuation restrictions: contact the castle when booking for a wheelchair user. Keep capacity above ground floor is limited, first-floor museum capacity is also restricted, and users must be able to transfer to an evacuation chair. A Changing Places toilet is available.

Visiting with children: Borrowable activity packs and baby-changing facilities support a family visit. Pick the keep plus one collection; allow a break before everyone tires. Discuss sensory requirements in advance.
