NORWICH GUIDE Independent ideas for your day out

Outdoors / NORWICH

River Wensum riverside walk

The Wensum gives Norwich a different outline from its busy shopping streets. Choose a short section around Pull’s Ferry, Bishop Bridge and Cow Tower, using the council’s landmark map to understand what you pass. This is a flexible walk with historic views; it does not include entry to every building beside the river.

Before you go

Pick your turnaround before starting and check route notices. A short out-and-back is easier to adapt than committing to the whole mapped riverside walk.

The practical details

Where to find it
River Wensum, around Pull’s Ferry and Bishopgate, Norwich.
Directions and arrival information ↗
Tickets and booking
No ticket for a public riverside walk. Food, transport and any separately operated building visits cost extra.
Access and getting around
The council map is a sightseeing route, not a verified step-free itinerary. Surfaces, approaches and crossings vary; ask the council about your intended section if using a wheelchair or buggy. Follow temporary diversions and avoid flooded paths.
Official access information ↗
Visiting with children
Keep children close beside open water. Make one bridge or landmark the destination, with a planned return and toilet break elsewhere; the route is not a playground.

Practical information checked 14 September 2026. Confirm anything essential to your visit with the venue.

Make it part of your day

Allow 45–90 minutes for the visit, plus travel and breaks. This is a suggested planning allowance; opening times, access and availability may affect your plans.
