Check both opening calendars and castle private bookings before travel. Allow lunch between the two interiors.
A compact walk through the county town / OAKHAM
Use the heritage trail to connect Oakham’s market place, Butter Cross and old streets with the castle and museum. It is a way to notice details between visits, not a requirement to walk to every marker. Choose a short section, look up at the buildings and leave room for a meal or independent shop browse.

Several buildings on the trail are private, and one linking path is permissive rather than a public right of way. Follow current signs and view buildings from public routes.
Practical information checked 15 September 2026. Confirm anything essential to your visit with the venue.
Allow 1–2 hours, or a shorter section for the visit, plus travel and breaks. This is a suggested planning allowance; opening times, access and availability may affect your plans.
