Dunollie Museum, Castle & Grounds

Spend a longer visit at Dunollie on Oban’s northern edge, combining the 1745 House Museum with grounds and, if suitable, the climb to the castle ruin. This offers a different scale from the small waterfront museum: leave room for a meal or garden café break rather than rushing straight to the next stop.

Choose the parts of the site that suit your group. The castle path is steep and slippery when wet; the museum and lower grounds can form a visit of their own.

Tickets and booking: 2026 opening: 17 March–end October, Tuesday–Sunday 10am–4pm, closed Monday. Last recommended entry is 3.30pm, too late for the full visit suggested here. Tickets can be bought online or on arrival; check current event and seasonal arrangements.
Access and getting around: Wheelchair-suitable paths connect parking, reception, café and museum; accessible toilets are in the museum. Some exhibition rooms require stairs. The castle path is unsuitable for wheelchairs. Ask staff which rooms and routes fit your needs.

Visiting with children: Use the play area and family trails between museum sections. Leave enough energy for the return journey, particularly if walking from town. Outdoor paths need supervision and suitable shoes.
