Ganavan Sands
Head around two miles north of town for a sandy shore, a picnic and views across the water. Ganavan Sands gives children room for sandcastles and adults a change from sightseeing. It is a separate coastal outing, not the beach immediately beside the town’s shops.
Bring food if you want a dependable picnic: refreshment vendors are seasonal. Use the main Ganavan Sands facilities rather than confusing it with smaller Wee Ganavan.

- No ordinary beach admission. Allow separately for parking or bus fares, and check the current return bus before setting out. Food provision is seasonal; do not rely on an evening vendor. Shorten the visit if conditions deteriorate.
- Access and getting around
- The main beach has a car park and public toilets, but soft sand and the shore are uneven. Check facility availability and parking terms locally. Ask about the approach if using a wheelchair or pushchair; a view from the firmer edge may suit better than crossing sand.
