Pitlochry Dam and Visitor Centre
The visitor centre turns the dam from a large piece of engineering into a story about people: the workers who built Highland hydro schemes, the homes they supplied and the salmon that still need to travel upstream. Look through the exhibitions before stepping outside to see the structure itself. A shorter indoor visit works well when conditions make the riverside less inviting.
From 14 September the visitor centre closes on Mondays. The old underwater fish-viewing chamber is closed; do not plan the visit around guaranteed live salmon sightings.

- General admission is free. Current centre opening is Tuesday–Sunday; check for short-notice changes. The centre car park has a two-hour limit, so choose appropriate longer-stay parking if combining a show or extended walk. Food and purchases cost extra.
- Access and getting around
- The centre has level access, a lift between exhibition floors and accessible toilets with baby changing. The walkway across the dam contains steps and is unsuitable for wheelchair users; indoor access does not make the wider river circuit step-free. Ask staff about the separate easier path from the lower car park.

- Interactive energy and salmon exhibits give children something to investigate indoors. Add only as much outdoor walking as they can manage, keeping close to them beside water. The fish ladder supports migrating fish, but seeing a fish is never a condition for a worthwhile visit.
