Short woodland trails on the edge of Pitlochry / NEAR PITLOCHRY
Faskally Forest and Loch Dunmore
Faskally offers a choice between a gentle circuit around Loch Dunmore and a more uneven woodland trail reaching the shore of Loch Faskally. The mix of trees reflects its history as a model woodland and forestry school. Choose the path that suits the day, taking time to look across the water rather than trying to cover every route.

The Dunmore Trail is the easier choice; the Foresters’ Trail has roots, steep sections and wooden steps. Ordinary daytime walks are separate from the ticketed Enchanted Forest event.
The practical details
- Where to find it
- Off the B8019 northwest of Pitlochry; use Faskally’s signed entrance rather than treating the postcode as the exact turn-off.
Directions and arrival information ↗ - Tickets and booking
- No general trail admission charge, but parking is paid except for qualifying Blue Badge use. Check FLS alerts and autumn event arrangements before travel; the Enchanted Forest has separate tickets and transport rules. There is no need to book that show for an ordinary permitted daytime walk.
- Access and getting around
- The 1.2km Dunmore Trail has firm, largely smooth gravel with some uneven sections and short moderate slopes. The 2.4km Foresters’ Trail is more demanding, with roots, mud, narrow sections and steps. FLS lists accessible parking and toilets; check local alerts before travel.
Official access information ↗ - Visiting with children
- The shorter loch trail gives children a manageable outing with time to look at trees and water. Supervise closely at open water and bring your own drinks or picnic. Choose daylight and current ground conditions; sightings of birds or other wildlife are not guaranteed.
