Royal William Yard
The former naval victualling yard has a different character from the Barbican: large stone buildings, a marina and broad architectural views, with restaurants and cafés occupying the historic spaces. Come for a walk and a meal, taking time to notice the buildings’ former working purpose. It is a separate waterfront destination in Stonehouse, not a quick extension of the harbour circuit.

Before you go
Plan the return before taking the Waterlink ferry. The 2026 service is seasonal and weather-dependent, and an online ticket does not reserve a particular sailing. A road-based return keeps a missed or cancelled boat from dictating the evening.

- Public exploration is free; restaurants, parking, ferries and activities cost extra. Waterlink operates seasonally through 1 November in the published 2026 timetable, subject to weather and tide. Tickets are point-to-point and first-come, first-served. Check current sailings and book a meal directly when timing matters.
- Access and getting around
- The main gate’s pedestrian arches avoid the 63-step route from Devil’s Point. Historic cobbles remain around the Yard; individual businesses have their own access arrangements. Waterlink ferries are not wheelchair accessible. Use the land approach and confirm your chosen venue’s facilities when step-free access matters.

- Suits a gentle waterside walk and a meal, with close supervision around the marina. The Devil’s Point staircase is optional; do not make it the only way into a pushchair outing. Check dated family events separately rather than expecting activities every day.
