PORTHMADOG GUIDE Independent ideas for your day out

A shorter train ride with a hands-on museum / PORTHMADOG

Welsh Highland Heritage Railway

Take a short railway trip with a stop at the covered heritage centre at Gelert’s Farm. This volunteer-run attraction makes a useful alternative for visitors who want to get close to railway exhibits without spending several hours on a longer route. The museum stop is an important part of the outing, not just a wait for the train home.

Before you go

Go to the separate WHHR station on Tremadog Road, opposite the main-line station. This is not Harbour Station or the long Welsh Highland journey to Caernarfon.

Visiting with children
The shorter ride and covered interactive exhibits suit a manageable family visit. The miniature railway runs on most operating days, not every day; ask staff about the attractions available before promising a particular ride.
