Portree Harbour and the Lump

Take time around Portree’s painted waterfront, then climb the nearby wooded promontory known as the Lump for another angle on the bay. This is a compact introduction to the town, best paired with a meal rather than treated as an all-day attraction. Watch the harbour from public areas: fishing and passenger operations continue around visitors.

Before you go

The view does not require access to working berths. Follow signs around harbour repairs and keep the Lump climb optional if gradients or wet paths do not suit.

Tickets and booking: No ordinary sightseeing ticket; parking and food cost extra, and organised events on the Lump have separate arrangements. The council’s August 2026 update expected first-phase harbour repairs in September, with further work planned. Follow current restrictions rather than assuming completion.
Access and getting around: There are slopes between the town streets, harbour and wooded viewpoint, with uneven paths on the Lump. Choose an approach that suits your mobility and stay clear of working areas and quay edges. The pontoon can be closed to public use during cruise operations.

Visiting with children: A short look at the boats can fit around lunch. Supervise near water and vehicles; the quay is a working space, not a play area. The hill is an optional extra for children who still want to walk.
