PORTREE GUIDE Independent ideas for your day out

A shoreline route with a steeper circuit option / PORTREE

Scorrybreac coastal walk

Follow the coast below the Cuillin Hills Hotel onto the Clan MacNeacail lands, looking back towards Portree and out across the water. A short shore out-and-back is a different undertaking from the full circuit, which climbs steeply away from the coast. Choose your turning point before the walk becomes more demanding than intended.

Before you go

Make the shore and clan memorial your shorter objective. Continue around the full circuit only if the group is comfortable with its rough ground and climb, and local signs allow it.

The practical details

Where to find it
Shoreline entrance below the Cuillin Hills Hotel, Scorrybreac, Portree, Isle of Skye
Directions and arrival information ↗
Tickets and booking
The trust maintains the land for free public enjoyment. No ordinary walking ticket. Check current signs and conditions, close gates and take litter away. The circuit is around 3km, with additional time needed to walk to and from central Portree.
Access and getting around
The approach passes a footbridge and gate, then gravel paths; the longer circuit includes steep climbing and uneven ground. Avoid cliff-edge side routes and respect any rockfall closures. It is not a level promenade suitable for every wheelchair or pushchair.
Official access information ↗
Visiting with children
Choose a short return route for younger children and keep them close near water and drops. Carry a snack and water. Do not let an apparently easy start commit the family to the steeper section farther round.

Practical information checked 15 September 2026. Confirm anything essential to your visit with the venue.

Make it part of your day

Allow 1–2 hours for the circuit; shorter shore visits possible for the visit, plus travel and breaks. This is a suggested planning allowance; opening times, access and availability may affect your plans.
