Portsmouth Natural History Museum
Cumberland House offers a smaller-scale encounter with natural history and a butterfly house in eastern Southsea. Choose it when children would enjoy a manageable museum visit rather than a full day among ships. The historic building makes this a different outing from the much larger attractions around the harbour.
Buggies must be left in the museum’s buggy storage. Bring a coin or trolley token for the lockers and plan how a younger child will move around inside.

- General entry is charged for visitors outside PO1–PO6; resident concessions require postcode information. Ordinary visits do not need advance booking, but queues may occur. Check the current Friday opening and butterfly-house last entry.
- Access and getting around
- There is a ramp at the entrance and ground-floor access, but no lift to the first floor. Some butterfly-house paths are narrow; assistance dogs are not allowed inside that house. Ask about suitability for larger mobility equipment.
