Ripon Prison and Police Museum
Step into a former prison and police station to explore how policing and punishment changed. Ground-floor displays cover the policing story, while the upper cells bring visitors closer to the experience of confinement. It is a focused companion to the courthouse rather than another version of the Workhouse Museum.
Read the access and suitability information before committing to the upstairs cells. A shorter ground-floor visit may work better for some visitors, but check what it includes with staff.

- Buy an individual ticket or compare the all-museums pass if you intend to see more. The 2026 general season runs through 22 November, normally with daytime opening before the Courthouse’s later start. Special activities can have separate arrangements.
- Access and getting around
- An access lift serves two floors, but its upper exit has a heavy door. Cell entrances are narrow with slight steps and may not suit powered wheelchairs. Floors and stairs are uneven, lighting is low in places, and an accessible toilet is on the ground floor.

- The themes include crime and punishment and the cells can feel confined. Check suitability for younger or sensitive children; hands-on activities do not remove the need for an adult to explain the content.
