Travel to Newtongrange for a substantial museum visit in the former Lady Victoria Colliery. Galleries explore coal and the communities built around it, while the colliery route adds the scale of the working site. The recreated underground roadway is part of the visitor experience above ground, not a descent down a live mine shaft. Treat this as its own outing rather than a short stop in Roslin village.

Allow 2–3 hours and check the early last-entry time. Some colliery areas are exposed, so bring a layer even when choosing the museum for a wet day.
