Rye Harbour Nature Reserve
The reserve near Rye Harbour village offers a broad coastal change from the hilltop town: shingle, lagoons, estuary views and birdwatching. Start at the Discovery Centre and choose an open southeastern route according to the weather and current notices. Castle Water is currently closed; the Discovery Centre and southeastern reserve remain open.
Check the live reserve alert before setting out. Keep dogs on leads and out of the water, avoid contact with water and do not touch dead birds. Do not use a route through the closed Castle Water area.

- The reserve is free to enter; allow separately for transport, food and any car-park donation. Reserve a mobility scooter ahead and check current opening for café and toilets. Plan the journey to Rye Harbour village and a return bus or taxi; it is a separate outing from the town centre.
- Access and getting around
- The main path from the village car park towards the Discovery Centre and river mouth is step-free, with benches along the route; shingle and other side paths differ. Accessible toilets and baby changing are available during Discovery Centre opening. Mobility scooters can be reserved in advance. The route is exposed, and car-park gates and centre facilities have seasonal hours.

- Bring layers, water and a short wildlife-spotting goal. Stay on open paths, supervise children beside water and shorten the walk if wind or rain makes it uncomfortable. Bird sightings vary. A short centre-and-path visit can work better than a long circuit with tired children.
