Before you go

Check the actual day: the museum currently closes Sundays and Mondays, apart from specifically announced bank-holiday openings. Its planned redevelopment does not mean every future gallery is already open.

Tickets and booking: Free general admission, with donations welcome. Current normal opening is Tuesday–Saturday; special bank-holiday dates are announced separately. The café closes earlier than the museum. Check temporary displays and event terms before travelling.
Access and getting around: A passenger lift serves the floors, with a platform lift and ramps addressing some internal changes of level. The council-commissioned access survey records heavy doors and restricted turning space in some toilets. Ask staff to confirm the best route and suitable available toilet for your needs.
