SHREWSBURY GUIDE Independent ideas for your day out

Park and gardens / SHREWSBURY

The Quarry and Dingle

Within the Severn loop, the Quarry gives Shrewsbury’s compact streets room to open out. Follow a tree-lined park path, pause near the bandstand or enter the Dingle for a closer look at its planted beds and water features. You can make this a short garden visit or a longer park outing; neither requires completing the whole riverside circuit.

Before you go

The Dingle is locked separately each day, even though the wider park has broader public access. Check local notices after heavy rain and use another route if riverside paths are closed or flooded.

The practical details

Where to find it
The Quarry, beside St Chad’s Terrace and the River Severn, Shrewsbury.
Directions and arrival information ↗
Tickets and booking
Ordinary public park and garden entry is free. The Dingle keeps its own daytime opening, and ticketed events can change access to areas of the park. Check current notices for play facilities and flooding; food and special events cost separately.
Access and getting around
Choose an entrance and path appropriate to your mobility: the town slopes towards the river and the council identifies ageing paths and flood impacts. Do not assume a continuous accessible river loop. Ask the council about current route and toilet availability if essential.

Visiting with children
The park has a play area, with some inclusive equipment. The splash park operates seasonally and can close for maintenance; one play-bridge feature is currently listed as closed. Keep children close beside the river and water features.

Make it part of your day

Allow 45–90 minutes for the visit, plus travel and breaks. This is a suggested planning allowance; opening times, access and availability may affect your plans.
