Southwell town heritage walk

Take the council’s town trail as a reason to slow down around Southwell’s streets. The route puts familiar-looking buildings into context and makes a useful partner to the Minster, showing more of the settlement around the cathedral. Browse a little, look up at the architecture and leave room for a café stop rather than trying to make this an endurance walk.

Use the current trail map and read parking signs on arrival. A self-guided street walk does not include admission to the interiors of private buildings or businesses.

Where to find it: Church Street car park and central Southwell

Tickets and booking: No admission ticket is needed to follow public streets yourself. Parking, refreshments and any paid interior visit are separate. Download the council map before setting off.
Access and getting around: The council describes pavements and footpaths with slight inclines. Choose a shorter section if crossings or uneven surfaces are difficult; a historical route map is not a guarantee of a continuous step-free walk.

Visiting with children: Choose two or three buildings to investigate together and stop while it is still enjoyable. Pair the walk with the recreation ground for active time instead of extending a young child’s history lesson through every street.
