Southwold Lighthouse tour

The white tower stands among Southwold’s houses, an unusual place to explore the work of a coastal navigation light. A guided tour explains its role before a climb through the tower to views over town and coast. The climb is central to the visit, so choose it only if the whole party meets the operator’s requirements.

Before you go

Meet at the Adnams Tours Centre in The Swan courtyard, not at the lighthouse door. If booking a brewery tour on the same day, the lighthouse must come first because it has a zero-alcohol policy.

Tickets and booking: Book the actual tour slot and read the restrictions for every participant. Tours can be affected by minimum attendance. No alcohol before the lighthouse visit; arrange any brewery or distillery tasting afterwards. The walk from the tour centre is part of the guided outing.
Access and getting around: There are 113 steps including a steep ladder section, no lift, and participants must climb and descend unaided. The operator says it is unsuitable for restricted mobility and lists further health restrictions. Fully enclosed, flat-soled footwear is required; read the complete visitor conditions before booking.

Visiting with children: Children must be at least seven years old and at least 1.1 metres tall, with no more than two children per responsible adult. They must manage the stairs unaided; babies and children cannot be carried, including in carriers.
